Children born abroad to South African parents are eligible for South African citizenship by descent through birth registration. Once submitted, applications are forwarded to the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa for processing. Please note that it takes six months or longer to register the birth and receive a birth certificate from the Department of Home Affairs.

Parents can register a foreign birth and apply for their child’s first passport at this office. Both parents and the child must attend the appointment in person to sign the forms and complete the verification process.

Required Documents:

a. English Hospital Birth Certificate ***

b. English Household Registration Transcript (英文戶籍謄本) ***: Only required for dual South African and Taiwanese citizens.

c. Parents' English Marriage Certificate ***: Please bring the original document if married in South Africa.

d. Parents' Original Passports and Taiwan Alien Resident Certificate (ARC).

e. South African Naturalisation Certificate and Permanent Residence Permit: Only required if a parent is a naturalised South African citizen.

f. Passport Photos: Five (5) identical color photos of the child (35x45mm, white background).

g. Passport Application Fee: NT$2,260.

h. Application Forms: Forms DHA-24 and DHA-288 will be provided at our office. Form DHA-529 can be downloaded in advance. Please print two sets and complete them using a black ink pen (one set for the child and one for the South African parent).

*** Document Legalization Requirements: Items a, b, and c must be legalized by the following authorities before your appointment:

1. A Notary Public at a local district court (地方法院公證人 或 民間公證人).

2. The Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BOCA website).
