South Africa celebrates Human
Rights Day on 21 March. This is a public holiday which
is aimed at reminding us about the sacrifices that
accompanied the Struggle for the attainment of
democracy. On the occasion
of this important holiday, let us remember the pledge
which involves an individual agreeing to six simple
statements, including:
I commit to building a South Africa free of racism and
hate speech.
I pledge to reject hate speech, intolerance and all
forms of discrimination.
I pledge to embrace the diversity, differences and
shared humanity that enrich us all.
I affirm that our diversity should unite us, not divide
us.
I pledge to fight against racism.
I affirm that hate speech and bigotry should have no
place in our society.
For RSA this is important to advance our principles of
Ubuntu. |
