The R42-million project is part of the Revitalisation
of Industrial Parks Programme of the Department of Trade
and Industry (the dti).
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, launched
the refurbished Babelegi Industrial Park in Hammanskraal
on Tuesday, 30 May.
Minister Davies said the main objective of the programme
was to accelerate economic development in the lagging
regions by attracting business investments to locate in
these areas. It is also aimed at supporting job creation
in manufacturing and related sectors.
¡§The dti has forged strategic partnerships for the
implementation of the programme on a national scale,
working with the provinces, their agencies as well as
municipalities.
¡§In the case of Babelegi, the department is working with
the North West Development Corporation, who is also the
owner of the park. The City of Tshwane has also played a
strategic role in ensuring the smooth implementation of
the programme,¡¨ said Minister Davies of Tuesday¡¦s
launch.
The Babelegi Industrial Park has approximately 261
developed units which are available for leasing, while
188 of the units are occupied by firms operating in
